Do cannabis concentrates seem like more work than they’re worth? It can be tricky to determine the best type of cannabis concentrates, how to use them, or even what they are, to begin with!

Even with all the complicated terminology and hype, concentrates offer a unique way to soak up the supposed benefits of cannabis.

In the following article, we’re exploring all about cannabis concentrates and how you can start your journey to enjoying this unique method of cannabis consumption.

What Are Cannabis Concentrates

Cannabis concentrates are made from cannabis trichomes–those snow-white tiny structures that cover the plant and are most commonly found on the buds. These trichomes contain terpenes, cannabinoids, and various other compounds responsible for the effects of cannabis.

There are three types of concentrates: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolates.

Isolates offer cannabis users a chance to experience potency at nearly 100%. At the same time, full-spectrum concentrates provide a synergistic experience where all active chemicals are extracted, creating the entourage effect.

Broad-spectrum concentrates are similar to full-spectrum concentrates as they contain a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes; however, they differ in THC. Broad-spectrum doesn’t contain THC, or if it does, it is only in trace amounts. Broad-spectrum tinctures can also contain CBN, CBD, and GBG.

As trichomes go through an extraction process, a concentrated form of cannabis emerges. Concentrates take on many forms, but ultimately, the process they’re made with is responsible for what kind you get.

For example, glass, shatter, budder, taffy, and oils are all various extractions that develop through chemical extraction.

What Are The Benefits of Cannabis Concentrates?

Cannabis concentrates offer multiple distinct advantages over other consumption methods. For example, if you’re concerned about the health effects of vaping, concentrates provide a safer alternative.

Pain Relief

Pain relief is one of the most common reasons people turn to cannabis concentrates. Research has shown that THC is responsible for more significant  pain relief and can be an excellent option for people suffering from long-term chronic pain.

Nausea

Cannabinoids, and THC in particular, have long been known to help relieve nausea in chemotherapy patients. People struggling with nausea and vomiting may want to turn to cannabis concentrates for relief.

Migraines

The effects that THC has on serotonin and the central nervous system could create the relief migraine sufferers seek. Since migraines cause both pain and nausea, it’s reasonable to see how concentrates could benefit migraine sufferers.

Anti-Inflammatory

Inflammation is another reason cannabis consumers turn to concentrates. People struggling with heart disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders can leverage concentrates to reduce symptoms potentially.

Do You Get Higher from Weed Concentrates?

Cannabis extracts have been said to have up to 99% THC levels. When compared with dried cannabis buds at 10-25%, there is some concern over how quickly and how high you can become when consuming weed concentrates.

Interestingly, however, a study out of CU Boulder revealed that smoking high-potency cannabis skyrockets THC in the blood by over two times as much as smoking conventional weed, but the effects aren’t much different. While the reason isn’t apparent, it does highlight the need to understand how frequent cannabis consumption can lead to tolerance in the body.

We recommend starting with a low dose and going slow to prevent having a negative experience or effect from a high dose of cannabis concentrate.

How to Use Cannabis Concentrate

Concentrate can be used in multiple ways. Some use it in a vaporizer, others consume it as an edible or even topically, and many opt to dab.

Dabbing delivers a potent hit of THC. To do a dab, you’d need to use a dab rig, which looks similar to a bong, and spread the concentrate onto the surface nail or banger. Then, add some heat, vaporize it, and enjoy the effects.

Remember, especially, go slow with dabbing and use only a tiny amount.

Best Type of THC Concentrates?

Cannabis concentrates are available in a variety of forms through a variety of methods. The most common types of THC concentrates include:

Hash

Hash is made from a solventless extraction method that uses ice water and compresses the THC remainder into a ball form.

Rosin

Solventless concentrate in pure form, Rosin is an oil extracted from the cannabis plant.

Budder

This whipped waxy extract is often called badder because it has a creamy texture.

Crumble

Wax that isn’t whipped is called crumble and has a grainy texture.

What is Shatter?

Shatter is a cannabis extract that has a translucent appearance–almost as if you could shatter it. Processing techniques that involve solvents such as hydrocarbons and butane are used to extract it. Shatter provides impressive the benefits of cannabis in a compact form.
